Science behind Joint Pain
Joint pain can be a result of many different causes. Most commonly is the normal wear and tear of the protective layer between the bones in your joints, or from various joint injuries. Osteoarthritis is a chronic degenerative condition of joints that also is a common cause of joint pain. It affects all parts of the joint including the connective tissues, protective cartilage layer between bones and causes inflammation of the lining of the joint.
How Joint Injections Work?
Joint injections are an effective option for joint pain because it delivers the medication directly into the joint space where it can work to decrease inflammation, provide protective cushioning and heal injuries. The direct administration into the joint allows for a faster and stronger effect on treating the cause of your joint pain.
Types of Joint Treatments We Offer
Cortisone Injections for Fast Relief
Cortisone is a steroid medication that can be injected into almost any joint of the body except the spine to reduce swelling and pain. Cortisone injections commonly also contain a local anesthetic to provide faster relief of pain, while the Cortisone will work over a longer period of time. These injections work fast to decrease inflammation and help you move more comfortably within days. Typically, maintenance is needed every 3 months.
Durolane –Long-Term Joint Protection
Durolane is a hyaluronic acid gel that can be injected into the knee or hip joints to mimic the lubricating substance of your joints known as synovial fluid. It works by decreasing friction within the joint and acts as a shock absorber to provide additional protection. Treatment can be repeated every 6 months.
PRP – Taking Advantage of Your Body’s Natural Healing Techniques
Platelet-Rich-Plasma (PRP) treatments utilize your body’s natural healing properties found in your blood to stimulate tissue repair and faster healing. A small amount of blood is drawn from your arm and then spun to separate the PRP from the rest of the blood components. PRP is rich in growth factors which stimulate healing and collagen production. When injected back into the body it can accelerate the healing of damaged tendons, ligaments, muscles, bones, and joints all over the body. Treatment protocol is 2 injections one month apart.
